Many pensions and assets are now managed by corporations or companies that may not be readily recognised by you or have been amalgamated into other schemes

It is quite common for the name of the pension scheme to not directly relate to the employer with whom your pension started

So don't be put off if you don't make the connection instantly

We will be able to explain the details when you make contact

We have prepared answers to some of the most common questions asked by pension holders as to why we are making contact with them

Why are you contacting me?

The regulated financial institution who is managing your pension (often referred to as the Administrator or Trustee) believe that you may have changed address or that there has been some other change in your circumstance which they are not aware of.

  • They may for example of received returned post which was sent to your last known address
  • It might be that you have reached pensionable age and they would like to discuss your options but have been unable to contact you
  • Or it could simply be that they want you to be aware of changes that are taking place to your scheme

There can be a myriad of reasons as to why they want to stay in touch with you…none of them bad

As a consequence they have asked us to trace you and confirm your new contact details so that they can communicate with you directly

Why is it you contacting me and not my pension company?

GHT is a specialist tracing company who locate people across the world where financial institutions have lost contact with their customers for various reasons.

Pension company's, Corporations who manage their own pension as well as Trustees and Administrators of pension schemes do not have the in-house expertise to perform this function.

Our company consists of researchers, genealogists and investigators who perform this function daily.

As a consequence these Pension providers ask us to perform this task on their behalf

What do you want from me?

Our role is simply to help put you back in touch with your pension provider or financial institution.

We simply need to confirm your current contact details which consists of your postal address, your preferred email address and ideally a telephone number.

Thats it, nothing more

We will never ask for any information relating to your finances or personal circumstances

All future correspondence relating to your pension will be confidential between your financial provider who is regulated under the terms of the Financial Services Act

Should I be concerned? Is this legitimate?

No, there is nothing to be concerned about, however, diligence against fraud and scams is something we positively encourage

In most cases we will be able to share the information that has been provided to us by your financial institution such as previous addresses, national insurance number, previous employment and so forth to help provide further reassurance that our enquiry is genuine This is a service we provide for some of the UK's largest financial companies. However we understand that being contacted regarding any financial matter can be unsettling and a cause for concern


We have been asked to contact you by a regulated financial institution, simply to verify your contact details

The very last thing we wish to do is cause any concern over our intentions or the purpose of this contact

In most cases we will be able to share the information that has been provided to us by your financial institution such as previous addresses, national insurance number, previous employment and so forth to help provide further reassurance that our enquiry is genuine This is a service we provide for some of the UK's largest financial companies. However we understand that being contacted regarding any financial matter can be unsettling and a cause for concern

Rest assured we do not require any information from you other than to confirm that the information held on public records is correct

How much is the amount involved

This is a private matter between you and our client (the financial institution) who will contact you directly once your new contact details have been verified

The General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR) which was implemented in May 2018 is a regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy for all individuals within the European Union and the European Economic Area. It also addresses the export of personal data outside the EU and EEA areas.

As such this ensures that no information regarding your finances is ever passed to us

You have contacted me regarding a deceased relative, why does this involve me

In some cases there may be benefits owing to the estate of the deceased pension member.

If the next kin details are not on file, or are no longer up to date we are asked to find the nearest blood relative(s)

We will have contacted you as we believe you are the legal next of kin and would like to establish that this is correct

Please note that the decision to pay assets to the next of kin sits with the financial institution holding the asset and they may require proof of the original holders death and or your identity before any decision is made.

How did you locate me, are my private details at risk

We use a mixture of public records such as The Electoral Roll, Births, Deaths and Marriage records together with social media and genealogy tracing to locate people

We do not use credit agencies or any other form of database that might have a detrimental effect on you or your family

Any information we hold is held securely and in strict adherence to the code of conduct laid down by the Information Commissioner’s Office with whom we are licensed

The details we collect from you are not shared with anyone other than the financial institution that has asked us to find you

What will you do with my information?

Once we have confirmed your contact details we will pass your revised and up to date information to the financial institution responsible for administering your pension or asset

They will then be in contact with you under separate cover

Once they are in contact with you your details will be deleted from our records

What happens if I don't respond to you?

We normally make at least two attempts to contact you.

If you fail to respond we pass your file back to the pension company and tell them we can't find you.

This means that your pension company will not be able to communicate any important information affecting your pension to you.

It could also affect your entitlement, or in the event you are of pension age mean you miss out on receiving income to which you are entitled.

In our busy lives it's all too easy to loose track of past pensions, particularly if you have changed companies or have a pension entitlement accrued from employment when you were much younger.

We urge you to receive what you are entitled to and contact us.

Remember we are only seeking to conform your correspondence address, nothing more.

Can't I just go direct to my pension company?

Yes you can.

However, the pension landscape has changed considerably over recent years. It is much more difficult now than it used to be to establish who is responsible for the administration of your pension.

By confirming your contact details through us you can be assured that your information is not only received by the correct company and department, but also that the changes have been properly reflected on your file.

Who pays for this service?

Our service is completely free of charge to you and paid for by the administrators of your pension plan

What do I do if I am still concerned?

We understand why people can be concerned, particularly when contacted in regard to any aspect of their finances.

You should, and it's important, to safeguard yourself against scams and phishing activity.

You can find some good advice to protect yourself from Citizens Advice here

However for peace of mind please consider the following

  • If you contact us, even without providing any of your information we can tell you the details of your pension administrator and you can verify directly with them that we are acting on their behalf
  • You can check our compliance status with the Information Commissioners Office
  • You can always have a third party contact us on your behalf. A solicitor, accountant or just someone you trust.

  • Remember we only need to verify your current address, email and telephone number (optional) we will never ask you for any additional information that is personal to you
